Girl Scouts

I gave a presentation to a girl scout troupe (actually a joint meeting of 2 groups) last night. My granddaughter is a member of one of the troops. We had a great time. In addition to talking to them about ways a jewelry artist can sell their pieces we discussed the tools, findings and beads I use for beading. Several parents were present.

Then for the fun part! Because I had a limited number of tools which meant they had to take turns there wasn't time for each girl to make two pieces, they each made a pendant using the technique for making drop earrings. Definitely had talented future jewelry artists present.

Sharing a design

Wanted to share one of the pieces I created recently. Yes, I know, another large and chunky necklace. What can I say? That is what I like. This one is peach aventurine and "blackstone".

I used a lighter background to photograph against. Can't say I like it any better. I used a flash this time, misplaced my tripod.

Happy 2006

The holidays are over and it is now time to see what the new year will bring. Thanks to relatives shopping, home parties by friends, organization luncheons, etc, etc, etc my stock is very low and I will joyfully spend un-pressured time in January creating new pieces.

New Design

I am very excited about a new design I created today. I am posting a photo of the Black Agate necklace. (Sorry it is not clearer.) It is a little over 18" long. It will hang shorter on the neck than it appears to in the photo. I also made a Peach Aventurine necklace but the photo did not turn out at all. I will try again and post it if a get a decent one. Hopefully one of these days I will get the knack for taking good photos of my jewelry.

Backbay Christmas Market

I had a great time at the Back Bay Christmas Market in Seabrook Texas. To keep with the holiday theme I used the earring cards as "ornaments" on miniature Christmas trees. (The plastic bag in the photo was one of the items used to weigh down the trees because the wind kept blowing them over. Kinda ugly but necessary.)

They had a DJ playing music both days. He made extra money by selling announcements for booths. Three announcements each day for $7. Definitely worth the price.

Other mthods of selling

I have finally started doing home parties (Had a lot of resistance about that). I sold more at the one I had last night than I have at most of the shows I have done. And because I didn't have to rent space or have other travel expenses the return is better. Of course I gave the hostess (a dear friend of mine) a gift of jewelry for having me in her home and inviting her friends.

Most of the "jewelry" people I have met at the shows say the "home parties" are very successful. . . . Can't help it, still have resistance.

One of the guests at the "party" last night is going arrange for me to set up a display in the lunchroom at her work. More on that in the future.

I'm back!

I could not find my blog and thought it had been deleted. I even removed the address from my business cards. Today I found it!!!!!

Without a doubt, "Art" shows are the best. In the beginning I did not consider what I created "art" and was very hesitant to apply. (Talk about preconceived ideas) I was wrong.

Now that I have finally found the posting site I will post more often.
